Mike helps real estate developers, owners, investors and lenders buy, sell, develop, finance and lease all types of commercial and residential real estate projects.

With experience in virtually every phase of a project, Mike regularly advises clients on commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions, project development, joint venture financing, formation of real estate investment funds, property management and leasing. For corporate clients, he provides business law advice related to entity formation, structure and governance.

Mike represents a rapidly expanding national self-storage company with acquisitions, financing and development.

As lender’s counsel, Mike has closed acquisition and construction loans secured by all real property types, including health care facilities, senior living facilities, speculative industrial projects and hotel and hospitality projects.

Mike has a particular interest in financing projects with incentives such as tax credits and tax increment financing. He has extensive experience identifying and securing state and federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits to preserve and redevelop historic properties. He has also represented developers and lenders who utilize New Markets Tax Credits and renewable energy Investment Tax Credits.

  • Developer's Counsel for historic mixed-use Custom House apartment and hotel redevelopment of former St. Paul, MN Downtown Post Office Building.
  • Lender's counsel for real estate loans in multiple states for national, regional and community bank lenders.
  • Developer's counsel for multiple Minnesota community solar garden projects; landowner's counsel for solar leases for utility-scale solar development projects.
  • Numerous transactions representing landlords of leases with national retailers, large office, and medical office clinic tenants, as well as in lease modifications during COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Represents national loan placement agent in documenting and closing participated loans secured by multiple product types, including senior living facilities, hotel projects, casino gaming equipment, and others.
  • Represents emerging companies in the recreational cannabis marketplace, including CBD product manufacturers and distributors.
  • Formation and management of real estate investment and development funds.
