Gene Hummel is an attorney at Best & Flanagan and a member of the firm’s Litigation, Real Estate, and Municipal Law & Land Development practice groups. He uses his experiences working in both the private and public sectors to provide realistic solutions to complex problems. Gene represents companies, individuals, and municipal governments in legal actions and disputes involving contract, tort, and eminent domain cases.

During his time at the University of Iowa College of Law, Gene served as a Note & Comment editor on The Journal of Corporate Law. He then served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable John R. Rodenberg on the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Prior to law school, Gene worked at a human rights organization based in Washington, D.C. that worked with U.S. federal agencies and prominent nongovernmental organizations on a range of issues.

  • Represented prime contractor in arbitration against state agency over a contract dispute, receiving an award of nearly $600,000.
  • Represented prime contractor and owner in dispute with subcontractor in mediation, resolving the case for $900,000 less than the $1.9 million claim.
  • Represented national company in employment discrimination suit, winning dismissal on summary judgment.
  • Researched and advised clients on compliance with local laws and regulations.
