Best & Flanagan Attorneys Recognized as Pro Bono All Stars by the Minnesota State Bar Association

In conjunction with Pro Bono Week 2020, Best & Flanagan is pleased to announce the recognition of three attorneys as Pro Bono All Stars by the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA). MSBA’s North Star Lawyers program recognizes members who provide 50 or more hours of pro bono service in a given calendar year. Pro Bono All Stars are MSBA members who have been recognized as North Star Lawyers for seven or more years.

Katie Barrett Wiik has been designated a North Star Lawyer since the program’s inception, eight years ago. She does extensive pro bono work before both appellate and trial courts. Her deep commitment to pro bono work includes such causes as advancing gender equality and reproductive justice, and advocating on behalf of transgender people, asylum seekers, people who have experienced discrimination, and survivors of sexual or domestic violence. Katie has received awards from several public interest law organizations recognizing her pro bono service, including Standpoint, the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, and the former Council on Crime and Justice. She also has ongoing pro bono co-counsel relationships with Gender Justice and The Advocates for Human Rights.

Jen Olson regularly provides pro bono legal services with Advocates for Human Rights, representing clients in immigration and asylum matters. In addition to her designation as a North Star Lawyer and Pro Bono All Star, she has been recognized as an Up & Coming Attorney by Minnesota Lawyer and as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers.

Kim Ruckdaschel-Haley has also been designated a North Star Lawyer since the program’s inception. She earned the 2019 Alan J. Davis Award for her commitment to public service through her pro bono work in representing indigent clients in immigration matters, as well as the Leonard E. Lindquist Award for her pro bono work in expungement. Kim also volunteers with the Volunteer Lawyers Network, and as a conciliation court judge in Dakota County. She currently chairs the MSBA Litigation Council’s Community Service Committee.
