Maria is an attorney at Best & Flanagan and a member of the firm’s Business Law and Insurance practice groups. She represents individuals, closely-held businesses, nonprofit organizations and corporations across a broad range of industries.
Maria especially understands banking, insurance and real estate. Previously, she worked in the banking industry where she was responsible for advising clients on real estate financing transactions. She also specialized in niche lending products, including land-trusts, deed-restricting second mortgages, government financing and other non-conforming community lending projects.
In addition, she worked as a law clerk at a major Minnesota-based insurance company where she gained experience evaluating complex insurance coverage issues and examining a variety of regulatory and compliance questions for in-house counsel.
During her time at William Mitchell College of Law, she served on the William Mitchell Law Review and wrote an article on special assessments, published in that journal. She also served on the Journal of Law and Practice and competed in the Transactional Law Meet competition where she and her partner were awarded first place in drafting and second place in negotiation. She is fluent in Spanish and has extensive cross-cultural and international experience.
