David G. Schelzel


David is a partner at Best & Flanagan and part of the firm’s Business Law, Intellectual Property and Government Law practice areas. He works with a wide variety of businesses, non-profits, municipalities and creative individuals to help understand and navigate the legal aspects of what they do, avoid pitfalls, solve problems, develop smart strategies and realize their goals.

David routinely helps clients organize their business, and protect and use their intellectual property, including through registration, licensing and dispute resolution. He has been responsible for several large branding projects, including clearance and registration of new product line and organizational trademarks. He has resolved intellectual property disputes involving apparel, architecture, software, photography, music and writings, as well as Web based properties and activities. David has also worked closely with famous individuals to protect their privacy and publicity rights, and has negotiated significant agreements with and for some of Minnesota’s largest companies and most prominent creative individuals.

David is the City Attorney for the City of Wayzata, and works regularly with the cities of Wayzata and Golden Valley in land use and zoning matters, as well as other areas of municipal law. He brings a practical and creative mind to his work.
