Sarah
Ruter is an associate in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice
group. While Sarah practices in all areas of litigation, she focuses
her practice primarily on employment law. She has represented small
and medium sized businesses and publicly-traded corporations as
well as individuals in employment discrimination, wrongful termination,
sexual harassment, and retaliation cases. Recently, Sarah successfully
represented an employer in a wrongful termination action resulting
from an employee's abuse of leave procedures. She also obtained
summary judgment for a homeowner in a wrongful death dispute brought
by a neighbor with respect to tree maintenance. Sarah devotes
a portion of her practice to family law, assisting individual clients
with a variety of issues such as marriage dissolution, child custody,
child support, parenting time, spousal maintenance, paternity, and
adoption. She also assists tribal clients with employment
law and gaming issues.
During law
school, Sarah externed for the Honorable Stephen C. Aldrich, a Hennepin
County District Court judge, in civil and family court. In addition,
Sarah clerked for the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, served
as a Legal Research and Writing Instructor at the University of
Minnesota Law School, and earned honors on National Moot Court.
Sarah
is a former public school teacher, private school administrator,
and high school theater director. She is active in her community
and serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Sexual Violence
Center (SVC). In her free time, she enjoys traveling, playing with
her young son, and spending time with family and friends.
